LET THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN

by gregory davalos

Holiday parties: some people love them and some people hate them. I for one, love any excuse to drink a festive cocktail and ignore my routine diet of kale salad and green juice (i'm from LA, give me a break.)

This year, I decided to throw an intimate get-together of my own. I've never hosted a holiday soirée before, so the pressure was on to make it memorable. I found that there are three main ingredients that go into a successful holiday party. The first is alcohol, the second is decor and the third (and most important) is the music. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but i've been to a lot of parties. It doesn't matter how amazing the location is or how tasty the h'orderves are--if you have DJ-No-Skills on the decks, your party could potentially fail.

Being that my holiday shin-dig was rather small I didn't see the point in hiring a DJ but still wanted DJ quality sound, and so the infamous google search for speakers began. The results were unanimous: JBL Audio was the way to go.

One easy online order later and my Xtreme Portable speaker arrived.  Upon opening the package, I was a little hesitant. You never know if a portable speaker is going to do the job and give you the sound quality you’re looking for, but after playing the first track of the night, I realized that the JBL Xtreme BUMPS. I'm talking like, the neighbors might call my landlord bumps. In addition to the pristine sound quality, connecting my iPhone via bluetooth took two seconds. There is NOTHING worse in life than the headache of unsuccessfully pairing your phone via bluetooth. The speaker is also splash proof, so there was no need to worry about any messy party goers ruining the experience.

Overall, the party was a success and i'm considering hosting another event for New Years!

Waldorf Drive

by gregory davalos

Do you ever stop and think "wow, i'm getting old?" That's how I feel every November when my brother Robert, four years my junior, celebrates his birthday. Robert has spent the past year working with me, taking endless Instagram snaps and shooting a lot of the content on my blog, so this year I wanted to do something extra special for his birthday. Rather than a cliché Vegas trip, I was in search of something unforgettable and wanted create memories we'd look back on with fondness.

We packed our bags and headed towards Palm Springs for a luxe retreat at La Quinta, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. The property is one of twelve landmark locations that offers the Waldorf Astoria Drive Experience. Designed to appeal to discerning travelers and automotive enthusiasts, the Waldorf Astoria Driving Experiences gives participants access to three of the world's most famous super cars, including a Ferrari 458 Italia Spider, McLaren MP4-12C, and Mercedes Benz SLS-AMG.

Under the guidance of world-class professional race car driver Randy Schwoerer, we set out for one of the most unique experiences of my life. It was absolutely unreal driving through the desert canyons in a McLaren MP4-12C, I felt like I was in a living/breathing luxury car commercial. To say operation memorable birthday was a success is an understatement, everything about the Waldorf Astoria is world class. From the moment we checked in and met our personal concierge Alyssa, to spa treatments at La Quinta Spa--living in the lap of luxury is something we can all get accustomed to.

Where do I even begin with this trip? After a few hectic days at Art Basel in Miami, we hopped in the car and drove down to The Gates Key West Hotel for a little R&R. Sam and Liz decided to elope while on the trip which worked out, because i'm actually an ordained minister (this was my second ceremony, believe it or not.) Key West was definitely an experience of a life time and I can't thank The Gates enough for making our trip so memorable!

Art Basel

by gregory davalos

After busting a rookie move and missing my flight, I finally made it to Miami for Art Basel. I'll be completely honest with you, I came more for Miami and less for the art. Miami is one of my all time FAVORITE travel destinations. I'm Cuban, so it always feels like i'm home when I visit.

I met up with my woes Liz and Sam and now we're headed to Key West for a week of rest and relaxation. I cannot wait to get into a robe and order copious amounts of room service!
