LESSONS IN LAYERING

Los Angeles is famously known for being season less, it’s always 70 degrees and sunny. While it’s not the worst problem to have, I’ve been craving a cozy get away where I could layer up and become one with nature. So naturally, four days after my 3 week stint in Tulum, I packed my bags once again and headed up north to Yosemite.

The weather was a solid 40 degrees during the day so I knew I had to dress practically, but didn’t want to sacrifice style. I turned to Walmart to dress for yet another destination. I can’t express how impressed I am with their selection of menswear. For Yosemite, I went with a Canadian tuxedo from George and paired it with a v neck sweater and turtle neck from Lands’ End. The fit and quality of the George denim set was impeccable, well tailored and sturdy enough for the outdoors. Lands’ End is best known for their outdoor apparel so the sweater and turtle neck were perfect for this trip and so soft to the touch.

I’m also a self professed impulse traveler, so Walmart’s 2 day shipping is a true godsend for last minute destination dressing.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE IN TULUM

Surprise, surprise—I’m back in Tulum. By now, it’s no secret that this little bohemian paradise is my second home.

Like any destination, there is a dress code here: clean, simple earthy tones. Packing for a three week trip is no easy feat, so I decided to take a look at Walmart’s new elevated selection of men’s ready to wear. Walmart is known to dress America and it’s important to take a little piece of home with you when you travel.

I’ll be frank, I was pleasantly surprised. Brands like Lands End, George and Elwood all had the quality and aesthetic I was looking for. I was particularly impressed with the rust colored George jeans I purchased. The fit and quality of the trousers rivaled pants I own from fine department stores.

Low season in Tulum means little bouts of rain and cooler temperatures so the navy Lands End sweater was perfect to throw over my shoulders before heading out to dinner at Casa Pueblo.

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS WITH THE FAIRMONT AUSTIN

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of jetting over to Texas to attend Austin City Limits with the Fairmont Hotel Austin. I’ve been to my fair share of music festivals and there is NOTHING like coming home to a luxury hotel after a full day of walking the festival grounds to see all the acts.

In addition to this, you have access to the Fairmont gold concierges that can facilitate anything and everything that there is to do in Austin. The complimentary culinary and beverage options in the Gold Lounge would impress even the most seasoned traveler.

FALL DRESSING TEXAS STYLE

No matter how hard I try to ignore the change in season, autumn is here. While the summer time sadness is real the silver lining is fall fashion. With the drop in temperature comes long sleeved button downs, cozy knits and denim for days.

I was in Texas last week for Austin City Limits and was met with 50 degree weather that was a stark contrast from LA. Luckily, I packed a few fall essentials from Bonobos. They recently launched a new Eco denim line that is thoughtfully sourced and expertly crafted. When I tell you that these jeans fit like a glove, I’m not exaggerating. The jeans feel rugged in texture, but provide a comfortable stretch without sacrificing that “hugging” feeling you get from a great pair of jeans.

The cherry on top you ask? Each pair is produced at a LEED-certified facility that recycles 98% of its water, focuses on using renewable energy sources, and is committed to being carbon neutral by 2025. In addition—Bonobos really went the extra mile by including zipper tape made with 95% recycled polyester, and thoughtfully sourced metal hardware.

I paired the denim with one of their light weight button downs to keep me warm during the festival and a pair of black chelsea boots. Footwear is a recent addition by Bonobos and it does not disappoint! Made from fine Italian calfskin leather, the boots are smooth as butter and very comfortable thanks to the built in cushioning at the collar and heel.
